Our Namesake: Robert Burnell (c.1239–1292) – Robert Burnell was a distinguished legal mind and statesman who served as Lord Chancellor of England under King Edward I from 1274 until his death in 1292. A native of Shropshire, Burnell rose from the royal chancery to become one of the most trusted and influential figures in the medieval English state.
