Tom Wesel is a senior tax specialist with deep expertise in international and cross-border matters. His practice focuses on the tax dimensions of corporate finance, inbound and outbound UK investment structuring, offshore wealth planning, and the taxation of intellectual property. Tom regularly advises high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs), both UK and non-UK resident, and has built a strong client base within the Chinese HNWI community.
Renowned for his technical precision and international perspective, Tom has advised across multiple jurisdictions in Europe and the UK. Of German origin, he divides his time between London and Spain.
Tom began his legal career as a lawyer-linguist at the Court of Justice of the European Union, having succeeded in a competitive EU-wide legal examination. He then spent ten years in full-time academia at King’s College London, where he served as Head of Tax Law and Head of the MA in Taxation. During this time, he was also an examiner in international tax for the Chartered Institute of Taxation and a faculty member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW). He continues to teach senior staff at HMRC in cross-border tax.
Tom has advised on complex cross-border tax issues for both corporate and private clients. He began his practice focusing on private equity and corporate tax planning. His clients include corporates, entrepreneurs, and international families engaged in high-value, multi-jurisdictional transactions.
